Musings on Ego

I know of whom
I should now fear
The voice that whispers
In my ear

My own true foe
Closer than once thought
With pain and angst
I can't be wrought

Ruinous pride
And self doubt
Parts of my mind
I aim to rout

It claims kinship
Although a rouse
The destroyer of
My altruistic Muse

So I forsake it
Like all false friends
At last my heart
Must now mend
